Muscat: The Muscat International Book Fair is not only a meeting point for young and budding readers, but it also offers a platform for young and budding authors to showcase their masterpieces.
According to observers, what is interesting is that some of these young Omani writers are not just writing in Arabic, but also quite proficiently in English.
One such author is Amar al Naimi, who has been a regular presence at the Muscat International Book Fair over the last couple of years and now has his third book on display at one of the stores. Al Naimi mentioned that there are a few young writers, such as Mohammed al Kindi, Aysal Waheed, and other youngsters who have come out with their projects.
The cheerful spectacle of children browsing through colourful books across crowded stalls is heartening, especially considering the skepticism about youngsters not engaging with books anymore.

Speaking to the Observer, several bookstall owners noted that it is interesting to find that children have a liking for books and their parents play a key role in that, as they need their parents to bring them to such fairs.
"Also, they will get inspired by the presence of young writers or authors of their age doing well at such a level and being praised by everyone." Some experts emphasised the essential role that libraries play in the literary movement and in preserving history through their collections.
The staff of Family Book Stores and Al Bhaj mentioned that despite addictions to screens and short videos, children are willing to look at books, and some even aspire to put their thoughts on paper instead of just expressing them in front of cameras.
Fifteen-year-old Aysal Waheed already has five books under her name, with her latest also based on fantasy. The Book Fair also discusses serious topics such as 'Human Trafficking: Its Forms and Ways to Combat It', with the participation of many specialists from authorities, especially focusing on efforts to protect and assist victims.

As part of its ongoing efforts to spread the culture of children's rights and promote a safe environment that protects childhood, the Children First Association launched its awareness booklet "I am Aware". This booklet uses a simplified and interactive approach to educate children about their rights and the boundaries of their bodies, which must be respected by all. It also clearly explains the steps to take when exposed to any inappropriate behaviour.
Calligrapher Saif al Kharousi held a specialised workshop entitled "Calligrapher’s Tools and Methods of Using Them" for those interested in the art of Arabic calligraphy to acquire practical knowledge of the tools of this ancient art and the techniques for using them.

The workshop covered various types of Arabic calligraphy and offered practical advice for beginners on how to avoid common mistakes and adopt best practices.
