

His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik will go on a state visit to the Russian Federation today.
A statement issued by the Diwan of Royal Court to this effect reads as follows: “In response to an invitation received by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik from President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation, His Majesty the Sultan will go on a state visit to the Russian Federation on April 21-22. The visit comes within the context of promoting relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Russian Federation in a manner that meets the aspiration of the two countries. The visit will discuss areas of cooperation between the two countries in various spheres and means of boosting them to serve the joint interests."
During the visit, the two leaders will exchange views on a set of current regional and international issues.
Under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, the Sultanate of Oman continues to develop areas of cooperation and partnership with various countries around the world.
His Majesty’s state visit to the Russian Federation is one such milestone aimed at maximising the common interests between the two countries, particularly in economic, trade, investment, energy and renewable energy sectors.
The summit between His Majesty the Sultan and President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin in Moscow reflects the desire of the two nations to advance their shared interests by developing strategic partnerships. This is especially significant as the two countries mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations on September 26, 1985.
The political relations between the two countries have been characterised by sincerity and transparency regarding several contemporary regional and international issues, reaching a level of mutual trust in consultations and exchanging viewpoints. This dynamic has been reflected through phone calls between the two countries leaders, visits by high-level official delegations and other reciprocal official exchanges.
In addition to the ongoing political and parliamentary consultations held regularly in Muscat and Moscow, the foremost of which was the meeting between HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, and President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. During the meeting, President Putin emphasised promising areas of cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the energy and tourism sectors.
By the end of 2024, the trade volume between Oman and Russia exceeded approximately RO 133.108 million. Oman’s key exports include metal products, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium products, while Russian imports consist of iron products and food items such as vegetables.
As of 2024, the number of registered companies with Russian shareholding in Oman reached about 277, with a total capital exceeding RO11.6 million (84.6 per cent of the total invested capital in these companies). SEE ALSO P2
